Whats Hot in Seattle's Summer
Seattle's summers are like no other. Between the mix of moderately warm temperatures that Seattlites pray for all year round, and the magnificient culture and creative arts that over take every city in Washington, there is no way you will be short of things to do in August. Most Seattle dwellers find this month to be the "melting time" and the "Time of the Tourists", as those from hotter places, often enjoy what is too much to bear for native Washingtonians. It's also a great month to go camping, and many Seattlites take advantage of this, making it a perfect time to come and visit the live entertainment that fills up everyday of the month.
There is so much to do though, and how is an outsider (or even an insider) to know what to choose?
This is where I come in. As a born and bred Seattle native, I have been to many of Seattles best and worst events, and I thought help create a brief yet comprehensive guide to Seattle's best events. I can't cover them all though, so if you'd like more info, feel free to browse the long list of events at the city of Seattle's calendar: http://www.seattle.gov/calendar/#/?i=11
LAKE CITY PIONEER DAYS - SATURDAY AUGUST 7TH
This awesome street fair is part of the events that surround Sea Fair all summer long. It is the Lake City special and one of the few times you'll find the largest rural highway blocked off to cars and filled with adventures and beautiful sights to see. Among the crafts and street preformers, many of the cool little shops keep their doors opens and have specials going just for pioneer days. It's a great time to find things that you can't find anywhere else, or just a great time to explore and pretend you're a kid again. Make sure to get there for the parade and you'll enjoy one of the best events Seattle has to offer that weekend.
DUNKIN DOGGIES DOG SWIM - SATURDAY AUGUST 7TH
Once a year, the Helene Madison public pool has an event that goes to the dogs, literally. It's their annual Dog Swim, where you can bring your
(licensed) canine companion to come and splash around their nice clean pool for a day. I'm not sure that words can describe how much fun it is to even just go and watch this event, as there is nothing else like it. Make sure to bring a camera or two, cause you're not going to be able to convince anyone that a public pool had it happen, without evidence. Just remember, there are NO people allowed in the pool, it's just for Dogs! =)
SEATTLE BY FOOT PUB CRAWL - SATURDAY AUGUST 7TH
Just as the name suggests, by the time this event is over, you'll most likely be crawling to your taxi. Starting out in the Seattle Brewing company and working your way through down town sample Seattle's finest brews, and ending up in one of our best Irish Pubs. This event is definitely not for the faint hearted, but it is definitely for those who enjoy a little learning with their fun! (21+ Only)

SEATTLE FOUNDERS DAY - AUGUST 14TH AND 15TH
Belltown puts on quiet a show at this festival, and if you're in town that weekend, it's not something I recommend missing out on. Just as with most Seattle Fests, you're going to find things that can't be found elsewhere, see things you never thought you'd see and have a blast! Just make sure to pack a full wallet, and leave room in the trunk, cause there is no way you're going to get out of there without a handful of cool things.
THE SEATTLE SQUARE - AUGUST 14TH
This is an awesome street fair/market to check out during the day time in the famous Pioneer Square. If I can add some advice, it's the most fun when you get there later in the day and then when it's over you can hit up some of the awesome bars and dives. Try to bus, taxi or carpool out there if you can, it will save you tons on parking.

This is an awesome free out door summer concert series down on the Seattle waterfront (pier 57). The emerald green ocean all around adds great acoustics and you'll find some of the best greasy and/or gourmet foods in Seattle!

Hing Hay Park is where it's at if you're looking for a super romantic place to take your love in Seattle. There just isn't anything quiet like catching a movie just after sunrise and getting to cuddle on some soft grass. It's free too, so you can go and check out some other awesome Seattle night life adventures afterwards if you want.

It's at Saltwater State Park at the Centerstage Theater, and admission varies each year, so make sure to check out the calendar. This is a great event for the long adventurer, or as a group.
SEATTLE HEMPFEST - AUGUST 21ST AND 22ND
Every year, the cannabis advocates come out of the wood work from all across the country to come and visit the famous Hempfest. It is the largest festival in the north west, and some say it's the largest event in America currently. With over a quarter of a million fest goers attending in recent years, there is no doubt that Hempfest is popular. If you're in town for the weekend, DON'T miss it. It's an event like no other, and a chance to be civily disobeint and help fight for freedom everywhere. Make sure to bring funds for munchies, and a good pair of walking shoes, because this an all day event that most visitors just can't get enough of.
AMUSEMENT PARK DAYS - AUGUST 21ST
Down in the industrial district, they host an annual amusement park for all ages to come down and have a blast. Bring your kids, or just pretend your the kid!
CONCERTS AT THE MURAL - FRIDAY AUGUST 27TH
Present by KEXP 90.3 and the Seattle Center, this outdoor concert is like no other. They have a great set up that allows for dancing, sitting or even an nice picnic. Come in a group, or make some new friends there, most Seattlites don't bite!
