Five Most Beautiful Waterfalls in Washington

Snoqualmie Falls

Snoqualmie Falls drops 268 beautiful feet along the Snoqualmie River along Route 202, just north of the city of Snoqualmie, Washington. Snoqualmie Falls is a very popular tourist attraction in Washington, and was featured during the opening credits of the TV show Twin Peaks.

Roughly 1.5 million people a year visit Snoqualmie Falls. There is a lodge or hotel called the Salish Lodge and Spa that sits right above Snoqualmie Falls. Puget Sound Energy runs two hydroelectric plants above the falls, but when the water is really flowing over Snoqualmie Falls it is a fantastic sight to see.

Palouse Falls

Palouse Falls is a spectacular waterfalls in Washington that plunges 200 total feet over a cliff face into a canyon along the Palouse River in southeastern, Washington in Palouse Falls State Park. Palouse Falls is located a few miles north of where the Palouse River merges into the Snake River.

There are actually two waterfalls at Palouse Falls. The upper falls drops some 20 feet into a smaller pool just before the main falls drops roughly 180 feet over the cliff face and into the gorgeous canyon below. Quite a sight to see. On April 21, 2009, daredevil Tyler Brandt went over Palouse Falls in a kayak and lived to tell about it.

Comet Falls

Comet Falls consists of one magnificent main drop of some 300 feet over a bedrock cliff face, with several other smaller drops located below and one above the main drop along Van Trump Creek in Mount Rainier National Park in Washington. Comet Falls was thought to resemble the tail of a comet, hence the name.

To reach Comet Falls visitors must hike the Comet Falls Trail in Mount Rainier National Park, which can be reached four miles east of Longmire, along Paradise Road East, just west of Paradise.

Lower Lewis River Falls

There are three lovely waterfalls along the Lewis River in the Gifford Pinchot National Forest in southeastern Washington. The falls are the Upper Lewis River Falls, the Middle Lewis River Falls and the Lower Lewis River Falls.

In my opinion, the most beautiful of the three waterfalls in Washington located along the Lews River is the Lower Lewis River Falls. The Lewis River drops some 43 feet at the Lower Falls with one main chute, and the rest of the water gracefully flowing over a table like series of rock wall, with all the water dropping into a pretty aqua-blue pool of water.

Lower Lewis River Falls can be reached along Forest Road 90 about 14 miles north of where Forest Road 90 connects with Highway 503, east of Cougar, Washington.

Narada Falls

Narada Falls consists of two waterfalls that drop along the Paradise River in Mount Rainier National Park. The two drops consist of an upper drop of about 20 feet and a lower drop that thunders down some 168 feet. The two waterfalls drop between the Mount Rainier Highway (Route 706) in Mount Rainier National Park.

Since Narada Falls is so easy to reach, it is one of the most visited waterfalls in Washington. During the spring runoff, or after a heavy rainfall, you will get wet viewing Narada Falls from the viewpoint in front of the main drop.
