Fall Creek Falls - Beautiful Scenic Waterfall Park in TN
Fall Creek Falls is a beautiful scenic waterfall that drops 256 feet along Fall Creek in central-eastern Tennessee. This magnificent waterfall is also the namesake and chief attraction of Fall Creek Falls State Park located along Highway 284 between the towns of Pikeville and Spencer about 60 miles southeast of Nashville as the crow flies.
Fall Creek Falls is generally regarded as the highest single plunge waterfall east of the Mississippi River. Whether it really is or not is debatable because the waterfall does not plunge 256 feet. At the top of Fall Creek Falls the water cascades down the cliff face for a bit before free-falling into the gorge below.
Toughannock Falls in New York State drops 215 feet in a single plunge. Looking at photos it's quite possible that Fall Creek Falls cascades for 41 or more feet at the top before plunging down which would make the free-fall at Toughannock Falls higher. But unless one is a stickler for details it really does not matter.
Fall Creek Falls is a gorgeous beautiful waterfall sight to behold. Either the state of Tennessee or the Civilian Conservation Corps built a dam along Fall Creek above Fall Creek Falls and the park releases water into Fall Creek as needed to make sure that the waterfall flows year-round. So visitors to Fall Creek Falls State Park are guaranteed to see water flowing over this scenic natural wonder.
In addition to Fall Creek Falls the park features many other activities including hiking, biking, boating, fishing, camping, swimming and even has a golf course. Also in Fall Creek Falls State Park is the Fall Creek Falls Inn and Conference Center which is a hotel that can accommodate up to 400 people including 145 overnight guests and is available for weddings, parties and special events. There are also cabins, lodges and villas in the park for rent.
