Montgomery County, Maryland, which is a suburb of Washington, DC, has an interesting selection of bowling alleys, ranging from regular league-friendly lanes to an upscale club-like atmosphere.  There are different prices and perks to each alley.  Each place caters to a different crowd.  After bowling at one of these locations, you may never look at the sport in the same way again.

Bowl America, located in Gaithersburg, Maryland, caters to casual bowlers looking for a good deal and it caters to league bowlers.  It is a basic, medium sized, modern bowling alley, and with the exception of occasional cosmic bowling, the lighting is always the same.  This is the best place to improve your bowling skills since bowlers go here to simply bowl without the frills Bowl America's competition has.  On Sunday through Thursday nights after 9:00 PM, when most leagues are over, you can bowl all night for $9.99.

White Oak Duckpin Lanes, located in Silver Spring, Maryland is a rare duckpin alley.  There are not too many duckpin alleys left in the United States.  Do not expect to bowl the same scores as you would in regular bowling.  The ball fits in your palm, and is light, plus the pins are smaller than your average bowling pin.  The price ranges from $4.00 a game on the weekday to $4.50 a game on the weekends.  If you are a league bowler, then games are only $2.00 a piece.  White Oak has leagues and cosmic bowling just like a typical bowling alley has.  This bowling alley is more for someone looking for out of the ordinary fun, as opposed to serious competition.

300 Shady Grove, located in Gaithersburg, Maryland is a renovated upscale bowling alley.  Since there are not a lot of clubs and trendy bars in Montgomery County, young adults in their 20's and 30's go here on the weekends for a night out with their friends without having to go into Washington,DC.  Prices range from $5.25 a game from Monday to Friday until 5:00 PM to $8.25 a game after 5:00 PM on Friday and Saturday.  There are upscale food and drink items not typically found at a regular bowling alley.  It looks more like a swanky bar with upscale decor, couches, and dimmer lighting than a regular bowling alley.  It is a fun place to hang out with your friends, but if bowling games to improve your skill for leagues is your sole purpose, then Bowl America is recommended over 300.  There is even a private bowling room for parties as well.

Bowlmor Lanes, located in Bethesda, Maryland is an upscale bowling alley that does not have any leagues at all.  Instead, the 34 lane bowling alley has two sports bars, a huge arcade, and a restaurant featuring food from celebrity chef David Burke, and hosts many different types of parties.  For people interested more in bowling, but still want the high end experience, then Thursday nights are your best bet with $18.00 all you can bowl from 9:00 PM to 12:00 PM.  It has been touted as one of the best locations in the Washington, DC area to go on a date.
